Hello Professor and Classmates!
While I spent some time reflecting on the topics that we covered during this course one thing that stood out to me was discrimination in the workplace. As an upcoming executive officer of a decent size corporation, I have read, studied, and will soon be submitting a paper on the topic and I think that this will be very relevant in both my current role and the one I plan on obtaining once I finish my Master’s Program. This course has changed the way that I think about legal and ethic issues by reviewing the situation at hand and thinking of the possible legal repercussions if handled incorrectly. Like many places of employment, my employer is currently seeking to fill positions and other managers have made comments that I found myself speaking up against to educate them that as a company we can not make such comments or assume certain things based on what we review on a resume.
I found the legal databases both interesting and intimidating and I think searching for cases, reading the cases, and taking out certain information of the case was probably one of my favorite parts of this course.
I appreciate your time, efforts, and your ability to be there to guide us all along this road we are on.

I learned a great deal about employment-at-will and the exclusions. While this is great information to have, I think some of the rules governing current employees are more relevant to my job. I learned quite a bit about workers compensation. Due to the assignments, I was able to research how worker’s compensation is handled in my state. While we do not have many accidents in my line of work (office work), I have seen people go on workers compensation due to slip and falls. It was interesting to me to learn more about this topic, as I am a supervisor. We cannot anticipate when a slip and fall may happen, so it is good to be more familiar with the laws governing this.
I also learned a great deal about protections for employees. I did not know that many protections were tied all the way back to the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This was both interesting and informative. There was one page in the textbook that compared illegal vs legal interview questions on different topics. One said “how many days were you absent from work last year” vs “how many days were you sick” (Jennings, 760). One was listed as acceptable, and I found this chart interesting. I had been taught in my supervisory training that neither were appropriate. I think there may be some leeway on some things, but I prefer to tread with more caution. This course did give me
