The guest operating system has a complete set of APIs which allow a third party to monitor system activity. They can see what users are logged in and what applications they are running, what files they are accessing, and much more. They can also perform actions in the system, such as killing processes or locking a file. With the native management system of the lower version, they won’t have this. Again, the only way to gain access is to use the lower O.S. version. Windows has also traditionally had built-in tools for the management and configuration of the guest operating system, with its own APIs and features. It is also provided by the guest’s native management system and again only available with a lower version (Hance et al., 2022).
